A feature on HYPEBAE is no small feat. In fact, gaining a feature on any popular Instagram nowadays can feel nearly impossible and when someone is they will definitely gain reach. Kari’s been featured so many times that HYPEBAE seemed to be a little behind schedule with hers. Manny took a moment to catch up with the talented Nail Artist and picked her brain about her work and how she stays motivated.
Manny A: Who are you and what do you do?
Kari G: I am Karirenize Guerrero and I’m a nail artist. My job consists of performing nail services on celebrities and models. I collaborate with cosmetic companies to design nail looks for beauty campaigns and fashion shows.
MA: Why do you do what you do? How did you start?
KG: It all started back in my middle school years; that’s where I grew a passion for nails. I would get my nails done every two weeks and one day I just thought to myself, “I can do this.” I started practicing on my own nails and then on others. Eventually I attended cosmetology school to become licensed.
MA: What’s your process and what motivates you?
KG: Honestly, seeing how I’m growing as a nail artist motivates me the most. Seeing my work inspire others pushes me to create art on nails.
MA: Any personal projects you are working on right now?
KG: Currently working on designing nail decals. These will be up for sale for all those nail art lovers once my website is up and running.
MA: What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
KG: My favorite thing about my career is being able to work with so many talented individuals. From hairstylists, make-up artists, photographers and creative directors; the best reward is seeing all the hard work from all those talented individuals. Like when the models walk on stage or that final photograph for a campaign. It really is an amazing feeling.
Kari not only shows up all over Instagram but has worked hard to get where she is. She’s been asked to be a part of New York Fashion Week for two years now. From here she only plans on growing and building her brand even more.
MA: How long have you been doing this?
KG: Professionally about eight years. I self taught after I turned fourteen and after I graduated from high school I signed up for cosmetology school.
MA: What do you critique about yourself the most?
KG: I would say everything since I’m a perfectionist. I always find flaws in everything I do. It can be a bad thing but also good because it pushes me to become better and master my skills.
MA: How was it working at fashion week?
KG: It’s always fun. There’s so much energy in one room; everyone is working together to deliver an amazing show in a matter of hours. I’ve assisted fashion shows before but back in February it was a special one for me. I had the opportunity to design all the nail looks for Studio 189 with LaPierre Cosmetics both are amazing brands. It’s such a satisfying feeling to see my growth as an artist and I’m very thankful for that.
Please stay tuned to all things Kari is getting into via her Instagram and her website when it’s up soon.
