Behind The Scenes

My love for music and film runs deep as some of you would know. There's this form of expression that lives in both that I'll forever be drawn to. Whenever I watch a movie or listen to music, I can't help but wonder what the creative process was like. Needless to say, but I'm kind of hooked on behind the scenes photos—these are the shots that make me feel like I was there in the process for some of my favorite films and moments in music. Silly, I know, but I decided to share some of those candids because I have a collection of them.

Living in Cameroon, Jackie Chan was always that guy over there, man—Next to Bruce Lee, of course. When I moved back to the states and saw him in a movie with Chris Tucker, it was like the best of both worlds for me. I wonder what scene this was that he was stretching for.

Without question, one of my favorite films of all time. I wrote this piece last year about the importance of seeing a film like this for black people. I even interviewed the director, the legendary Reginald Hudlin (shameless plugs).

I fuckin' love this photo. Look at young Mike back there soakin' up all the game from Stevie. I think this was around when Stevie released Signed, Sealed, and Delivered. Michael released his debut Got to Be There just two years later.

Janet Jackson The Velvet Rope era (1997)

Janet's gone on record to say this was one of her more depressing times in her life. This photo was taken around the time she recorded The Velvet Rope. I wrote about that time-period. I just love this candid from the recording sessions.

I have a ton more, but I won't bore you to death just yet. Maybe I'll keep these going? Haven't decided yet.
